'Mikado' cab fittings in 3D

THE engineers at Doncaster Works in the 1930S would have probably laughed you off the shop floor if you'd suggested that 3D printing could be used to build a steam locomotive, but that's just what the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust is doing in the manufacture of cab fittings for Gresley'P2' No. 2007 Prince of Wales. The project is employing both the latest 3D CAD and 3D printing technologies to manufacture patterns for the steam-valve hand wheels.
