Extra 'Scotsman' spend makes it the £7.2m locomotive

The National Railway Museum has revealed that the final cost of Flying Scotsman's trou blesome, 10-year long overhaul is £4.5million. The previously quoted figure was £300,000 lower, which was based on the overhaul spend up to summer 2015, with the loco still in an incomplete state. A combination of more work than originally anticipated and an intensified workload in order to hit the revised February deadline added significantly to the already unprecedented cost.
