At Manchester (Victoria) Station, Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, two large-scale maps showing the various routes have been erected. They are in red on white tiles, and line the walls of the main entrance to the station. THE ambulance train which brought the first batch of wounded to the Bath War Hospital on Easter Monday travelled over the London and South Western and Somerset and Dorset Railways, and was hauled by one of the late Mr D Drummond's earlier 4-4-0 locomotives No. 299, and a Somerset and Dorset locomotive. It is believed to be over 30 years since a South Western engine was seen north of Templecombe prior to Easter Monday. In the early history of this railway, one or two of Mr Beattie's 2-4-0 tender engines worked experimentally over this section.
