A wheeled Gresley'P2'2-8-2 will be realised this year if a £200,000 appeal is successful. The project team behind the £5million LNER new-build No. 2007 Prince of Wales has already accumulated all 20 of the cast wheels for engine and tender, but they still require the fitting of tyres and securing on the axles. Other outstanding work includes machining the procured axle box and roller bearing cannon boxes; assembling the re-designed crank axle; fitting bearings and axleboxes; and fitting the crank pins before a trial-fit of the wheelsets to the frames.
