Class 50 feature brings back many memories... good and bad!

I WAS the BR engineer (September 1971-March 1974) based at Crewe, responsible for negotiating payments from English Electric under the availability penalty clause of the leasing contract. This involved establishing the reason why locomotives were'stopped'each day, and if nine or more were attributable to EE, a penalty of £50 was due for the ninth and each additional loco. So I was closely involved with their day-to-day performance.
