Three die in Amtrak derailment

THE inaugural run of a new Amtrak service between Seattle and Portland that derailed near the town of Olympia (Washington state) killed three people and injured more than 80. Some of the train's carriages came off a bridge spanning the main west coast motorway (Interstate 5) and landed on the road below. The fatalities were on board the train.
