Precision Railroading leads to hundreds of locos being stored

MOST North American 'Class 1'freight railroads have introduced the Precision Scheduled Railroading (PSR) method of operating in the last four years. This has resulted in hundreds of locos being withdrawn and sold, with significant falls in coal volumes being transported having exacerbated the fleet reductions. PSR removes the previous approach of marshalling trains until they reach weight or length thresholds, and is rather more like the European approach of operating scheduled services, especially for wagonload traffic.
