WHEN The RM previewed this book for a feature in last September's issue, we had only been shown the digitised images and the printer's proof pages. Even though they were not printed on the same paper as the final books, the results were nevertheless impressive. Roll forward several months and the finished product is probably the most outstanding collection of photographs from the last years of British steam that has been compiled. The result is four hardback volumes -each with between 240 and 272 pages - more than 1,000 pages in all, complete with a a slip case, the whole lot weighing in at 8.2kg.
