FOLLOWING MY 30-year career in the RCMP, I joined the Bank of Canada's Currency Department where I spent the next 13 years. Both careers were inextricably linked to money. As a financial crime investigator, I was involved in cases in which Canada's currency had been counterfeited. At the Bank, I was involved in efforts aimed at making our bank notes more secure against counterfeiting. I was pleased to contribute my ideas on the design, production, and security of several series of notes, including the sophisticated and highly secure Polymer series. But of all the notes, my favourite remains the Scenes of Canada $50 that features the Musical Ride's dome formation on the back. As we approach the RCMP s sesquicentennial, it is timely to reflect on a special note that commemorated our centennial half a century ago.
