Over the last 20 years, Sturm Ruger's line of P-series pistols has built a solid reputation for reliability and ruggedness. Since the introduction of the original P-85, Ruger engineers have upgraded and refined this family of autopistols and the new P345 promises to be the best yet. While Ruger's early models were indeed quite reliable, they came up short in a number of critical areas. Like many high capacity double action pistols of that era, grip circumference was on the outside limit of practicality. Combined with a long double action pull for the initial shot, operators with medium to small hands often had a difficult time. Many shooters also took issue with Ruger's unique magazine release. Compared to some of the sleek European imports, the Ruger P-series guns appeared big and boxy. Analogies between the Ruger pistol and the classic Checker Cab were not without merit. Sure, it ran like a top, but it wasn't as refined as some of its competitors.
