The Eyes Have It

I was recently looking over the FBI's booklet on Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted ～ 2003. I use this book as a guide for the development and formation of courses of fire. Officers can't tell me that my courses are not realistic! We all know the basics of officer involved shootings; they haven't changed much in years. They happen fast, they happen in the dark (or low level light conditions), and they happen at close range (room distance or traffic stop distance). These are the basic components; of the course, there are exceptions. Still in 2003 a large number of law enforcement shootings occurred within the eight hour time slot between 8:00 pm and 4:00 am (low level light conditions). The majority were shot within 20 feet (39 out of 45), so the basics are stayins somewhat the same.
