British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL) have reported a loss of £303million in the year ended 31st March. The Company, however, believe there will be a vast improvement over the next two years, partly as a result of the Government's decision to restructure the nuclear industry. The group expects to pay a dividend to the Government from 2006. Michael Parker, BNFL's Chief Executive, said he expected BNFL to make an operating profit of some £250million after the creation of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. The Government-funded Nuclear Decommissioning Authority will take over the ownership and financial responsibility for decommissioning BNFL's Sellafield plant as well as the running down of the remaining Magnox power stations, due to be closed by 2010.
