A delegation of UK subsea leaders has convened in Rio de Janeiro to discuss opportunities for further oil and gas growth in the Brazilian offshore sector. The UK Brazil Energy Excellence Forum, which was hosted in March, focused particularly on new technologies that would assist operators to conduct adequate exploration projects in depths of up to 2500m. According to Alistair Birnie, outgoing CEO of Subsea UK, which led the delegation: "Around US$230billion of capital expenditure is planned for offshore Brazil in the next four to five years, with 40 FPSOs and 28 drillships and semi-submersibles required to be built for Brazilian waters. There is a window of opportunity right now which needs to be grasped by UK companies - even in 18 months it will be too late."
