Trimming ships correctly has a substantial effect on engine fuel consumption, whether on local or global routes. FuelSaver is based on genetic algorithms and saves fuel by finding a series of ballast solutions, which are both checked for strength and stability and optimised with regards to the fuel consumption at a specific speed by adjusting the draught and trim.
