The concept of a 'bowless vessel' may seem far-fetched, but Q4 2012 is set to herald the launch of a new heavy-lift vessel, designed by Dockwise Shipping and currently under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), South Korea, that aims to come close. The 275m loa Dockwise Vanguard is intended to transport significantly long, intact and pre-assembled structures, including offshore spar platforms and floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units, and, upon delivery, will dwarfDockwise Shipping's existing sister Blue Marlin and Black Marlin semi-submersible heavy-lift vessels, which feature lengths of nearly 225m each.
