The offshore segment has proven one of the key drivers for the evolution of maritime satellite communications (satcomms), with this sector being one of the earliest within the marine fold to adopt satcomms solutions and incorporate the benefits they offer into its operational activities.Figures released by consultancy Euroconsult reveal that, in 2011, the number of global maritime satcomms terminals active in the marine sector stood at 317,000,and the firm believes that this number will have doubled by the end of 2020,predicting a compound annual growth rate of 7% until this period.
