DCNS and Thales developing automatic system for UAVs

Towards the end of 2011, DCNS and Thales announced the launch of a new phase of a technology demonstration effort in which tzey are engaged to design an automatic deck landing system for UAVs.The D2AD programme is expected to see sea trials undertaken in 2012 using a French Navy frigate and a Boeing H-6U 'Little Bird' UAV. This follows successful deck-landing trials conducted in the US in June and July 2011, using a moving platform.The new phase of work will focus on risk reduction in the context of future tactical UAV programmes for the French Navy and the French Army.
