Operational profile demands innovative propulsion solution

When it entered service last year, the offshore patrol vessel (OPV) Turva became the largest and most advanced vessel in the Finnish Border Guards fleet and the only one with a helipad. It will primarily operate in the Gulf of Finland and the Northern Baltic Sea. In addition to the Border Guard, Turva was designed in cooperation with the Finnish Environment institute and several ministries to undertake a wide variety of tasks, each of which puts radically different demands on the 96m-long vessel and its propulsion system.
