An innovative scheme for a deepwater mining production support ship, to be built at Chinas longest established yard, represents an industry first, writes David Tinsley. A unique vessel for a pioneering, offshore mining project in the territorial waters of Papua New Guinea is scheduled to make her debut in Q4 2017. Ordered by Dubai-based Marine Assets Corporation (MAC) from Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, China's longest established shipyard, the mining production support vessel will be 227m in length by 40m in width, with more than 31MW of installed power.
