First steel cut on new Rolls-Royce SOV range

Rolls-Royce's first foray into offshore wind farm mothership design is expected to reach fruition next year, with the anticipated launch and delivery of the first in its new UT-5400 class of walk-to-work service operation vessels (SOVs). First steel has been cut at Spain's Astilleros Gondan yard. The debutant will comprise a UT 540 WP model, one of three UT-5400 designs formulated by Rolls-Royce, and will be delivered to Norwegian operator Ostensjo Rederi. The yard will also construct a sister vessel; both are intended for operations at the UK Race Bank wind farm, on behalf of DONG Energy.
