The majority of respondents to a Lloyds Register (LR) survey, conducted during the OTC Houston 2016 event in May, consider 'the adoption of new technologies' to be the most important path forward, and out of the doldrums, for the offshore oil and gas sector over the coming 18 months. Throughout the four-day show, exhibitors were invited to submit their views, via a multiple-choice questionnaire, at the class society's booth. Results showed that 43% of respondents opted for 'adoption of new technologies' as the most critical industry driver, a strategy that would include greater incorporation of unmanned robotics and 3D printing, for example, into operations.
