Royal IHC presides over sleeping giant

In Swifts classic satire Gullivers Travels, the fictional narrator is noted for his significant physical size and remarkable strength in comparison to the microscopic inhabitants of the island state of Lilliput. These very attributes have inspired the naming of offshore marine contractor Scaldis' forthcoming, dynamic positioning 2 (DP2)-enhanced, self-propelled heavy lifter, which is due for delivery in Europe in spring 2017. Designed jointly by Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam and Royal IHC, Gulliver is currently under build in China, with Royal IHC overseeing the vessel's construction. In February this year, the builder laid the crane ship's keel at its Qidong yard; the vessel will be completed at the groups Xiamen facility. Intended for utilisation anywhere in the world, the completed vessel will be developed to handle various tasks, including the installation of offshore infrastructures and wind turbine farms and decommissioning and deconstruction activities, as well as clearing subsea obstacles (including shipwrecks) and providing salvage operation support.
