Industry leaders sign Neptune Declaration to end seafarer crisis

More than 300 maritime companies and human rights groups have pledged to support a new Global Maritime Forum-led initiative designed to end the crew change crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, it was announced on 26 January. The Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change consists of four main actions devised to facilitate crew while maintaining global supply chains: • Recognise seafarers as key workers and give them priority access to Covid-19 vaccines • Establish and implement gold standard health protocols based on existing best practice • Increase collaboration among ship operators and charterers to facilitate crew changes • Ensure air connectivity between key maritime hubs for seafarers.
