The Panama Canal Authority and A.P. Moller-Maersk are the latest organisations to enrol in the IMO-backed Global Industry Alliance to Support Low Carbon Shipping (GIA). The newest members officially joined the GIA during its fifth taskforce meeting held last month at the IMO headquarters in London, bringing the group to a total of 18 members. The Panama Canal is the first Latin American organi-sation to join the GIA. It has previously been recognised for its sustainability initiatives and efforts to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions, with projects such as the waterways expansion in 2016.
