Support ship to be fitted with rescue centre

The German Navy combat support vessel Frankfurt am Main arrived at German Naval Yards in February for the installation of an integrated naval rescue centre (iMERZ). New cranes and launching devices for tenders used in conjunction with the iMERZ are also to be integrated into the Berlin class vessel. The medical equipment for the vessel is being supplied by Zeppelin Mobile Systeme. Until 2015, a container-based rescue centre was installed on Frankfurt am Main but was destroyed by fire in 2015. With the refit now underway on Frankfurt am Main, the vessel will once again have a rescue centre, including a complete hospital. The iMERZ consists of an integrated infirmary, two operating rooms, an X-ray room, dental department and a number of laboratories to ensure the operational readiness of the German Navy.
