A popular design for marine auxiliaries in all types of ships as well as for smaller-vessel propulsion applications, the Waertsilae 20 has been re-launched in upgraded and uprated form. The development programme for all versions encompassed by the series had a two-year timeframe, and the first deliveries from the higher-performance offering had been made by mid-2018.The latest generation of the 200mm-bore, medium-speed design has already amassed a substantial orderbook, including 33 gensets to be fitted from next year onwards in 11 newbuild COSCO crude carriers and ore bulkers.
