US Navy focuses on Sea Strike; Sea Shield; Sea Basing

The world's navies are developing their construction programmes in the light of changing threats and the biggest of them all, the United States Navy, is no exception. In the face of perceived threats from rogue states supporting terrorism, the US requirement is for forces operating in littoral waters supporting expeditionary forces. The execution of this mission is encapsulated in the Sea Power 21 'road map.' This 'road map' aims to integrate the US Navy fully into a joint services team operating throughout the unified battle space. It provides the framework for US Navy programmes and, to some degree, those of the US Coast Guard which works closely with the senior service. It consists of three elements; Sea Strike, Sea Shield and Sea Basing and is designed to exploit US strengths including information superiority, sea control, mobility, stealth, reach, precision and firepower.
