Planning for a bright LNG future at Samsung

In 2003, the Korean shipbuilder Samsung secured new contracts for a remarkable total of nine LNG tankers - all to feature the GTT Mk3 membrane containment system. Such a number re-confirms this yard's leading position amongst the world's builders of gas tanker tonnage. Although these ships are all in the currently popular 145,000m~3 class, work is earnestly under way to design and analyse the much larger vessels currently being proposed, particularly those for the mighty QatarGas projects, which envisages up to eight 230,000m~3 vessels and 12 of 250,000m~3, and perhaps including, for some, twin-skeg hulls for two propellers.
