The order, from Subsea 7, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siem Offshore Inc based in the Cayman Islands, was placed following an assessment by Siem of the medium to long term market for rigid pipelay and subsea construction. The company expects the overall demand to grow and that the development in the deeper waters will constitute a significant portion of such growth, particularly in West Africa and Brazil. IHC Holland Merwede BV's subsidiary, Merwede Shipyard, received the contract for the design and construction of the new vessel while the pipe-laying equipment will be designed and built by Huisman Itrec in Schiedam, Holland. Merwede Shipyard was granted the order because of its ability to design and offer the vessel in full compliance with the owner's requirements, including the integration of the complete pipe laying spread and cranes, within the required short delivery time. Delivery of the vessel will take place in the second quarter of 2007.
