Exhausting the options

WITH TWO-AND-A-HALF years to go until the IMO's global sulphur cap comes into force, some of the world's biggest ship owners are beginning to make preliminary moves towards their compliance choices. An intriguing picture is emerging. For some, such as cruise conglomerate Carnival Corporation, the choice has already been made. The company has installed scrubbers on 60 ships and ordered seven LNG-fuelled newbuildings. It is highly unlikely to change its twin path now. But others are less obviously set in their direction.
