Once you've skied in the USA it can be hard to head back to Europe. Resortrninfrastructure is the best in the world, with lifts and queues moving swiftly, and smiley attendants handingyou bars of'candy'and mugs of cocoa at the end of the day. It also has every type of terrain, from the mellow groomers of Mammoth to the extreme backcountry of Mount Baker. But despite all this, skiing in America isn't to everyone's taste. Some find it too homogenised and too sanitised, particularly when it comes to some of the off-piste policies and sickly sweet service culture.
