David Jones, author of the 'Fireman Sam'children's books, was a passenger on a BA flight from Gatwick to Portugal last February. As he approached North Terminal security he was asked to remove his scarf. In front of him was a woman with a hijab, who was not required to remove it as she passed through security. He made a remark to the security operative to the effect that, "If I were wearing this scarf over my face, I wonder what would happen". Those of us familiar with UK political correctness in general, and UK security procedures in particular, will not be the least surprised by what happened next.
