The aircraft cabin is a crowded and restricted life-support area within a confined space and, when in the air, is remote from any access to medical help, other than by radio and telemetry. Cabin crew and pilots have a certain amount of medical training and equipment but this is by no means comprehensive. With the increase in air travel worldwide, together with the destinations, age of traveller and obesity, one can see that the aircraft cabin is not a good place to have a medical emergency for the passenger or crew. Diversion can also be very costly to the airline.
