One thing is for sure - politics is never dull, from immigration issues, impending war and now the furore surrounding road tolls. Admittedly, the congestion charge (aka the Ken-gestion charge) was always going to cause a stir, especially as it is as much a political decision as it is a transport one. The money raised, a reputed £130 million a year, is earmarked for much-needed investment in the capital's transport infrastructure - with £36 million of this set aside for road safety, including better street lighting. With fewer cars on the road, will road safety not improve anyway? Or will Tower Bridge become a drag strip now that all the traffic lights are fixed to green?
