Controlling Lighting - a Local Authority Perspective

The relationship between planner and lighting engineer has been successfully forged. It has taken time, but there is trust and confidence. The lighting engineer's comments are usually accepted and incorporated into the final planning conditions. The process of seeing schemes approved and built with a properly designed lighting element has been satisfying for both planners and the lighting engineer. All of which demonstrates that there is a real need for the lighting engineer within the planning process. At the same time, non-specialist planners need to develop a good understanding of lighting issues, while relying, in the last analysis, on their local expertise.
