While LEDs go from strength to strength in the world of lighting (although Max Watts might disagree - see p. 10) OLEDs (organic light emitting diodes) seem to have been promising a big deal for some time now, without really delivering on that promise. So it was interesting to be invited to Chair one day of the key event in the OLED lighting industry calendar, the OLED Lighting Design Summit, to learn about the current state of the technology - and its market potential - straight from the horse's mouth. The audience of around 130 was a mix of OLED manufacturers, such as Novaled, Philips, Osram and GE, plus technologists, researchers and academics - as well as a sprinkling of lighting designers (some of whom graced the platform) not put off by the £1000 delegate price tag.
