This report presents an investigation into cyclists' use ofbicycle lights and high-visibility clothing and equipment within the urban environment, the barriers to their effective visibility and the implications for better practice. It involved a number of on-street observational studies in real locations, plus questionnaire surveys, to determine cyclists' preferences, behaviours and levels of knowledge. The results demonstrate that only about one-third of London's cyclists are adhering to guidelines and that there are many barriers for adequate night-time visibility, including the quality and reliability of equipment. The title of Cis O'Boyle's original dissertation is 'Are London's Cyclists Visible?'
