The article by Carl Gardner about Lou Bedocs (light Master Bows Out', Lighting Journal, December 2010) implies that the first air-handling light fittings were invented by Thorn. I attach an illustration (right) of an air-handling light fitting used in the House of Commons in the 1850s, which may be of interest to your readers - it was designed by that consummate Building Services Engineer, Dr David Boswell Reid.
