The 10OW challenge

Practically all domestic houses in the UK are still lit by a suspended light source - usually a 100W GLS lampin the middle of the room. Given the efficiencies in solid state lighting it's now possible to have incredibly powerful lumen packages in relatively small configurations. Lighting designers should use this opportunity to analyse the purpose and functions of our spaces,and to consider how light can help end-users complete tasks both efficiently and aesthetically. These considerations led the IALD to the creation of the 100W Challenge, in which five teams of independent lighting designers were asked to light an entire house with just 100W.
