Target-oriented AVO inversion of data from Valhall and Hod fields

A stratigraphic elastic inversion scheme has been applied to a real seismic data set from Valhall and Hod fields in the North Sea. AVO inversion shows discontinuous high porosity zones that can be interpreted as evidence for stratigraphic traps in the upper chalk interval. This was tested by exploration drilling (after AVO processing was completed) and hydrocarbons were found.
