Major issues in characterizing shallow-water carbonate-ramp reservoirs are geologic framework, inter-well heterogeneity, scale-up of petrophysical properties, and recovery-efficiency factors such as geologic model, reservoir heterogeneity, petrophysical properties, mobility ratio, and crossflow. Accuracy in modeling fluid flow and locating remaining oil in fields that have complex production histories depend on the accuracy of the geologic framework and description of interwell heterogeneity, including rock-fabric facies and permeability structure.
