TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT IN AUSTRALIA

Ecologically sustainable development and its principles, as we have seen, are incorporated in various ways in the several systems for water resources management in Australia. In the absence of any clear and unambiguous and potentially enforceable set of legal arrangements for doing so, it will be merely fortuitous whether the water resources in question are used and developed sustainably. To achieve the ecologically sustainable use and development of Australia's water resources is a major challenge generally but particularly for the legal system. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the whole community acting through its various public sector and private sector agencies.
