Wood Review Final Report: a 'MER' strategy for maximising petroleum production in the North Sea

The Coalition Government, it seems, has several key targets in its drive for economic growth. One is the 'liberalisation' of the planning system, blamed for hindering GDP-generating new development; the second, in light of the final report of the Wood Review published on 24 February 2014, is to maximise the oil and gas potential of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). This is a move that, coincidentally or otherwise, chimes with the government's need to present positive reasons for Scotland to remain part of the UK in the approach to the independence referendum in September this year.
