Five years on

The winner of the Chartered Engineer of the Year Award 2006 was Patrick Troy, from Midleton, Co. Cork who won for his project, 'Digital Manufacturing: A Case Study in Medical Devices'. Then, as now, Patrick worked for DePuy, a division of Johnston & Johnston, one of the world's largest healthcare companies with annual revenues in excess of $50bn. Winning the award led to Patrick taking on additional responsibilities over the last few years and today he works in a lead management role in an innovation centre located at Depuy's Cork headquarters: "We opened the centre in 2008 and in just three years it's gone from having three employees to a roster of 60, all working on innovations and new concepts for the biomedical device sector.
