Opening membership to shape our future

In 1835, a group of 20 civil engineers met to form the Institution of Civil Engineers, which by the Acts of the Oireachtas in 1960 and 1969 became the Institution of Engineers of Ireland, or Engineers Ireland. This group pledged, amongst other elements, to maintain a proper standard of professional education, ethics and conduct. Through the last 175 years, this remains a fundamental element of our professional organisation but the way in which Engineers Ireland facilitates it has naturally adapted, as engineering always does, to the society it serves.
