At EU level, we tend to concentrate on the macro situation. The much heralded EU 2020 strategy is supposed to deliver growth and sustainable jobs. This strategy speaks of a competitive, dynamic knowledge-based economy allied to a social pillar designed to modernise the European social model and an environmental pillar that recognises the need to decouple economic growth from the use of natural resources.
