Roughan & O'Donovan Consulting Engineers were heavily involved from the outset of both the N9 Carlow Bypass and the N6 Kinnegad to Athlone projects. In 2000 Roughan & O'Donovan and alliance partner Faber Maunsell (ROD-FM), led by ROD Managing Director Garry Smyth, were appointed on the N9 scheme by Kildare County Council. They took the scheme through route selection, preliminary design, EIS and CPO leading to a successful outcome at oral hearing. On completion of the statutory process, ROD-FM prepared the tender documentation, administered the tendering process and undertook the role of the engineer within the construction contract. Roughan & O'Donovan's involvement on the N6 scheme, headed by Director Seamus MacGearailt, was under the RIADA Consult banner up to the completion of the oral hearing. At the construction phase, ROD, in joint venture with Ryan Hanley WSP, prepared the tender documentation and through ROD Director Harry Meighan administered the contract on behalf of Westmeath County Council.
