Barry Stickings, newly-appointed president of the Chemical Industries Association, describes his first chemistry lesson as a turning point in his life, as he immediately knew where his career path would lie. A graduate of Keble College, Oxford, his career has included stints with BP Chemicals in London and a year teaching chemistry in Canada. Now he is the managing director of the UK, Irish and Scandinavian arm of German chemicals giant BASF.
