The rpe-budget submission delivered to the Treasury this week by a wide grouping of industry trade bodies contains some sound analysis of the state of play in manufacturing industry right now — and what the government should do about it. The basic message is that while things are rough right now, they will start to pick up next year. Problem is, though, what sort of shape will the UK manufacturing sector be in — compared to its rivals — once that recovery kicks in?
