Awarding its largest nuclear cleanup contract ever, the UK government said Friday it has selected a consortium led by URS' Washington Group Division, France's Areva and UK-based AMEC as the "preferred bidder" for a $44 billion, 17-year contract to clean up and manage the deeply contaminated Sellafield nuclear complex.rnThe consortium, known as Nuclear Management Partners Ltd., beat out three other highly experienced teams: a group led by CH2MHill Nuclear Services; a partnership led by Fluor Ltd. in partnership with Toshiba; and a team of Serco, Bechtel and Babcock & Wilcox.rnOne UK source said the three losing proposals were all scored very similarly in reviews by the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), the government agency that announced the selection of Nuclear Management Partners in a press release Friday.
